Axing New Inventors: It's Not a Bright Idea

“The New Inventors shows people what ordinary people are able to do...”
John Tolhurst, inventor and winner of episode 18, 2011

The story told by each episode of the New Inventors is that individuals are extraordinary and can change the world. The program, with its intersection of science, design, ingenuity, and determination provides an opportunity for innovators to showcase their ideas and inventions. These are gutsy themes and tales worth telling.

New Inventors touches everyone: scientists, garage inventors, household engineers and ordinary people. Each week the program inspires children to think and solve problems. We are given insight into the creativity needed to drive a clever nation. We are shown inventions that drive new businesses, bringing value to our economy. Nowhere else in the world does such a television program exist.

Mark Scott has attempted to justify the axing of New Inventors because of falling ratings. Rather than diverting the funds to support further outsourcing we believe the ABC should rebuild a new innovation and invention program.

Your support is needed
If you want to see the ABC continue to provide an opportunity for inventors to share and showcase their ideas we need you and your organisations to lobby Members of Parliament and ABC Directors (addresses below). Let them know your concerns, let them know that we are:

Calling on the ABC to recommit to building a program that presents innovations and inventions. It is important that the ABC continues to provide programming that maintains innovative and cutting-edge ideas in the fields of science and technology.

Calling for a public inquiry into the ABC.  An inquiry should allow the public to make their views known about their ABC, examining it’s role and purpose, governance and outsourcing production model.
