Australian content lost in digital multi-channels

A new report from funding body Screen Australia says Australian storytelling and jobs are being threatened by cheap foreign programming flooding digital television channels.

This has already occurred with ABC's Bananas in Pyjamas and with the way in which the ABC is continueing to cut its internal production the more likely that there will be less Australian content on its only public broadcaster.

The ABC has obligations under legislation to create and maintain content which bests represents the Australian identity and culture. However, ABC management are making decisions which reduces the amount of programming that voices the arts, science, sport and redional communities.

The Senate Inquiry the publics opportunity to voice their concerns on how the ABC is being managed and the decisions that are being made.
